Health & Safety

Keeping Our Children Safe

At St John’s, one of our highest priorities is ensuring the safety and wellbeing of every child in our care. We are committed to maintaining a secure and orderly environment, and it is essential that all pupils follow the school rules designed to protect them and others.

Our school site is carefully maintained and regularly monitored by the Headteacher and designated safety officers. All staff are instructed to challenge any adult or older pupil who is on the premises or school grounds without proper authorisation. We are proud of our excellent safety record, which can be upheld by following these important guidelines:

Pupils should not:

  • Leave the school premises during school hours

  • Play near boundary fences or in the car park

  • Enter stockrooms

  • Use first aid boxes without permission

  • Remain inside the school building during break times (unless directed by a member of staff)

  • Wear offensive or inappropriate clothing or footwear

Visitors and parents are asked to report to the school office via the main entrance. You will be asked to wait in the entrance foyer while your child is brought to you. For safeguarding reasons, parents should not enter classrooms through cloakrooms or walk freely around the school site. Although you may be known to your child’s class teacher, other members of staff may not recognise you.

At the beginning and end of the school day, children should enter and leave through the appropriate classroom doors. If a child is waiting at the gate at home time and is not collected, they should be taught to return immediately to school. Children who are not collected at the end of the day will be taken to the school office, where staff will make contact with parents or carers to check what is happening. It is therefore important that we always have up-to-date contact information for you. If collection arrangements change during the school day, please notify the school office as early as possible so that your child and their teacher can be informed.

Children must always use the designated pedestrian walkways. The driveway and car park areas are out of bounds, as they are busy access points and cannot be guaranteed as safe for pedestrians.

Together, by following these safety measures, we can ensure that St John’s remains a secure and safe environment for all.
