Pupil Premium

Pupil Premium at St John’s

Pupil Premium is additional government funding provided to schools to help improve the educational outcomes of pupils who are vulnerable to underachievement. This includes children who have been eligible for free school meals within the last six years, those who are looked after by the local authority, and children of Armed Forces personnel.

Pupil Premium Plus is a specific allocation of funding for children who are adopted or looked after by the local authority.

National data shows that pupils eligible for free school meals often achieve lower outcomes than their peers in national assessments. The purpose of the Pupil Premium is to help close this attainment gap. At St John’s, our Pupil Premium funding is used to support the diverse needs of our vulnerable pupils. Each year, funding is allocated following a detailed needs analysis, ensuring that resources are directed towards those who require the most support with both academic progress and emotional wellbeing.

Schools have the flexibility to decide how Pupil Premium funding is used, as they are best placed to identify the most effective support for their pupils. Due to limited resources, not all pupils eligible for free school meals will receive Pupil Premium interventions at the same time.

At St John’s, we are committed to narrowing the attainment gap between disadvantaged pupils and their peers. We aim to achieve this by providing an engaging, inclusive, and high-quality curriculum, supported by excellent teaching and targeted interventions. We carefully monitor and track the progress of all pupils who receive Pupil Premium funding to ensure the support provided has a meaningful impact.

All schools are required to publish details of their Pupil Premium funding, including the amount received and how it is spent. Please see the attached document for information on how Pupil Premium funding is used at Deepcar St John’s.
