A structured induction programme enables children from Royd Nursery Infant School to see their new class and teachers, and feel comfortable about their impending move to our Junior School. During the summer term, when children are in year 2, opportunities are provided to start to gradually introduce your child to Deepcar St John's. Our Year 3 teachers visit the Year 2 classes at Royd and liaise with your child's current teacher. Year 2 parents are invited to St John's in the Autumn and Summer term for a welcome afternoon and evening before children join us in September. The school will provide information, and answer any questions that parents may have at the meeting. If you are unable to attend either of the welcome sessions, please get in touch with the school to arrange a convenient time to visit. We will need to know, or have the following before the September term begins:
All children are welcome to join our school at any point throughout the academic year, providing there is a place available. We invite you to come and view the School prior to transfer to aid your decision; you can make arrangements with the school office. All admission procedures are handled by the Primary Admissions Team at the Local Authority. Telephone number 0114 2735766. If after visiting our school, you want your child to attend Deepcar St John's, you need to contact your child's current school. They will provide you with a Common Transfer Form; Section 1 must be completed by the parent. Section 2 much be completed by your child's current school. As we are a faith school Section 3b also needs to be completed by the parent and the minister of religion. The form is then sent to Pupil Admissions in Sheffield and they will contact St John's to verify that places are available. Please see our Admissions policy at the bottom of this page for our oversubscription criteria (how we offer places if there are more children applying to join our school than we have places available.)
