A structured induction programme enables children from Royd Nursery Infant School to see their new class and
teachers, and feel comfortable about their impending move to our Junior School. During the summer term, when children are in year 2, opportunities are provided to start to gradually introduce your child to Deepcar St John's. Our Year 3 teachers visit the Year 2 classes at Royd and liaise with your child's current teacher.

The Year 2 children will visit our Junior School on a number of occasions, for break time, assembly,
or to work with our
current Year 3s. At other times, they will come and spend the full day with us, getting to know their new teacher and teaching assistants.  For children who are less confident, extra transition visits will be arranged to help them become familiar with their new surroundings before they start in September. If you have any concerns, or questions about your child's transition please get in touch with our school office.

Year 2 parents are invited to St John's in the Autumn and Summer term for a welcome afternoon and evening before children join us in September. The school will provide information, and answer any questions that parents may have at the meeting.  If you are unable to attend either of the welcome sessions, please get in touch with the school to arrange a convenient time to visit.

We will need to know, or have the following before the September term begins:
  •  A completed emergency and health information sheet.
  • Your child's lunch choice of school dinner or packed lunch for the first half term, or a mix of the two.
  • A uniform order has been placed
  • Any requests and payment for peripatetic music tuition by July 1st.
All children are welcome to join our school at any point throughout the academic year, providing there is a place available. We invite you to come
and view the School prior to transfer to aid your decision; you can make arrangements with the school office. All admission procedures are handled by the Primary Admissions Team at the Local Authority. Telephone number 0114 2735766.

If after visiting our school, you want your child to attend Deepcar St John's, you need to contact your child's current school. They will provide you with a Common Transfer Form; Section 1 must be completed by the parent. Section 2 much be completed by your child's current school. As we are a faith school Section 3b also needs to be completed by the parent and the minister of religion. The form is then sent to Pupil Admissions in Sheffield and they will contact St John's to verify that places are available.

Please see our Admissions policy at the bottom of this page for our oversubscription criteria (how we offer places if there are more children applying to join our school than we have places available.)
