Our School
Deepcar St John’s is a Voluntary Aided Church of England Junior School catering for children from ages 7 to 11 years and is classified as a ‘Foundation School’. The present building was opened in 1968 and stands within a modern private housing estate.
The school is a well-maintained building situated within extensive and beautiful grounds with amazing views across the valley. We have large playing fields, obstacle course, two large playgrounds, nature reserve and orchard.
The school has eight large classrooms, hall and dining area, ICT suite, nurture room, administrative offices and a junior kitchen.
Children are drawn predominantly from it's intake area of surrounding houses. Royd Nursery Infant School, our feeder school, adjoins the site. Miss Jones is Executive head of both schools. and we have close links with them, particularly regarding the transition and induction of Infant children into our school. A number of children, through parents’ preferential choice, travel to the school from ’out of catchment’ area.
For the 2022/2023 academic year the school will have eight classes of mixed ability; two year 3, 4, 5 and 6 classes.
Being a Voluntary Aided School, we have close links with St John’s Church in Deepcar and regularly celebrate the major events in the Christian calendar either in school or by visiting the local parish church. The Vicar regularly visits the school.
Whilst professing the uniqueness of the Christian faith, we welcome all children from the neighbourhood regardless of family beliefs and faiths. There is no ideological pressure and yet Christian inferences are built into our ethos to help ensure all children develop their full educational, spiritual and social potential.
A wide range of After Schools Clubs are available each day until 4.30pm, which are run by our Sports Coach. We also take part in a number of competitive sporting competitions and regularly enter teams into Football, Athletics, Cricket, Multi-Sport and Basketball tournaments.
We have an excellent Facebook page. Find us at ‘Deepcar St Johns C of E School’ This is regularly updated and gives information about what children have been learning, provides reminders and important information for parents. It's a great way of communicating news and information about what is happening at St John's.
