Christmas at St John's

Christmas is a very special and busy time for us here at St John's with children attending Christmas Parties, Special Assemblies, School Christmas Lunch, School Disco, Pantomime, Carol Service. Additionally, children are busy in class making Christmas cards and gifts to take home.

For many years, our school has taken part in the Operation Christmas Child appeal, this involves parents and staff members filling a shoe box with small gifts. These boxes are then collected and distributed to children in crisis around the world. This year saw the highest number of boxes being donated. Thank you.

Reverend Oliver is a regular visitor to St John's, when he joined us before Christmas he performed some mind blowing illusions to help children understand the true meaning of Christmas.

Pendle Productions are a professional theatre company offering Touring Shows, Pantomimes and Educational Workshops across the UK. This year, their lively cast of performers brought to life the beauty and charm of the magical fairy tale, Cinderella, for children here at St John's. The fun packed performance had the children in fits of laughter and joining in with shouts of 'Oh no he isn't' and 'He's behind you'. They clapped and sang along with the cast and thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

Our funders organise our Christmas Disco each year, children have a fabulous time, creating memories that they will look back on in years to come.

A big thank you has to go to Vicky and Gaynor, our kitchen staff, who each year cook Christmas Lunch for nearly all the school. Staff join the children in the hall and we all eat together. It is a very special time.

We hope the weather stays fine on the day of our 'Junior Carol Service' so that we can head down to St John's Church. When we arrive, the church is usually packed to the rafters with parents, grandparents and family members. Children hold their Christingles, previously made by pupils in school, as our Choir leads the way in singing 'Hope of Heaven'.  In addition to the many  other Christmas songs we sing. We also have chosen children reading from the bible and children acting out the Christmas Story.

The final day, before the children break up for the holidays always begins with the truly amazing Mrs Cordle Christmas Show. Everyone meets in the hall, in their Christmas jumpers, for a fun filled morning, in which children get to sing, play games, tell jokes and have a great time with our Head Teacher.  The laughter, shouts and singing can be heard around the school.  The show finale starts with the children shouting 'teachers' until all staff come into the hall, then gathering on the stage, the staff perform the 12 days of Christmas to the children. The morning concludes with the whole school singing 'We Wish You a Merry Christmas'.
